Got the "Port" installation scheduled for next Thursday - Jan 3, with start of Radiation treatment now scheduled in for Monday, the 7th at7:30am. Just need confirmation of "start time" from the Chemo side of things and everything will be in place.
As far as this goes, I got a shot of anti-biotics -- one gram of AMCIN? -- with my IV before the anesthesia. Beyond that, I'm supposed to watch it over the weekend, but then it will be seen pretty much every day by the Radiation people... I do need to keep an eye on it for infection. I am also of the opinion that I want it out straight after the last chemo...
I guess you'll want to know about the risk of infection at the port site following installation. Will there be any special precautions required?

ReplyDeleteI just heard a piece on NPR discussing hospital-induced infections. Most seem to involve a pot penetration.
ReplyDeleteKeep your eye on it and don't rely 100% on the radiation folks to watch it. You know better than they do about your own body.
